چکیده

We give a systematic development of the application of matrix norms to rapid mixing in spin systems. We show that rapid mixing of both random update Glauber dynamics and systematic scan Glauber dynamics occurs if any matrix norm of the associated dependency matrix is less than 1. We give improved analysis for the case in which the diagonal of the dependency matrix is 0 (as in heat bath dynamics). We apply the matrix norm methods to random update and systematic scan Glauber dynamics for colouring various classes of graphs. We give a general method for estimating a norm of a symmetric non-regular matrix. This leads to improved mixing times for any class of graphs which is hereditary and sufficiently sparse including several classes of degree-bounded graphs such as non-regular graphs, trees, planar graphs and graphs with given tree-width and genus.

Dobrushin Conditions and Systematic Scan

We consider Glauber dynamics on finite spin systems. The mixing time of Glauber dynamics can be bounded in terms of the influences of sites on each other. We consider three parameters bounding these influences — α, the total influence on a site, as studied by Dobrushin; α′, the total influence of a site, as studied by Dobrushin and Shlosman; and α′′, the total influence of a site in any given c...

Industrial waste management using the rapid impact assessment matrix method for an industrial park

Due to the growth of population and industrialization, a great number of problems associated with producing industrial wastes have been created for both the environment and human beings. The industrial waste management in Brujen industrial park, located in the western part of Iran, has been investigated in this study using the environmental rapid impact assessment matrix techn...

Comparative Evaluation of Unmitigated Options for Solid Waste Transfer Stations in North East of Tehran Using Rapid Impact Assessment Matrix and Iranian Leopold Matrix

The current situation of world’s environmental issues, indicates that not only the man-made environmental damages have not been diminished, but also has given rise to more acute issues such as water and soil pollution, biodiversity loss, ozone depletion, greenhouse phenomena, etc. One of the most prominent effects of urban development on environmental problems caused by solid waste generated in...

On Systematic Scan

In this thesis we study the mixing time of systematic scan Markov chains on finite spin systems. A systematic scan Markov chain is a Markov chain which updates the sites in a deterministic order and this type of Markov chain is often seen as intuitively appealing in terms of implementation to scientists conducting experimental work. Until recently systematic scan Markov chains have largely resi...

Application of Liiwdin Projectors to Evaluate Density Matrix Evolutions

Projection operators are employed to evaluate functions of operators. In particular, this formalism is used to find polynomial expressions for exponential operators and thence to solve density matrix evolutions in closed analytical form. Problems explicitly treated include pulse rotation ofspin1 and spin-j systems, spin tickling and spin interferometry on a system of two coupled spin-f nuclei, ...
